This rhyme is about animals doing silly things, such as jumping over the moon.  This is a good rhyme to help children recognize the difference between real and pretend.
We read rhyme multiple times and completed story sequencing and letter search.  The older kids used the Diddle Diddle words to write in their journals. I encouraged them to look at the word and picture, say the word and then write.

We created patterns with hearts and worked on letter Gg.

Itsy Bitsy Spider.....

This rhyme is about a tenacious spider climbing up a spout.  This is a good rhyme for children to recite while they practice fine motor movements, like moving their fingers to imitate the "Itsy, Bitsy Spider" crawling.  Spiders are fascinating creatures because they can produce silk to make intricate webs.  Spiders build their webs then sit and wait for their prey to become stuck in the silk threads.  During this Invitation to Create, children used their construction and problem solving skills to build their own itsy bitsy spider webs. Like a spider, children experimented with how to wrap and weave the yarn "silk" to create a unique web.  Through this process they learned there is no right or wrong ways to build a web.  There are multiple possibilities to explore.
As a group we played a matching game.  I made a web on the table using yarn and randomly placed the cards in the spider web.
In our fine motor journals they drew lines to help the spider to the bottom of the page and they drew a spider with 8 legs.
We also worked on story sequencing and letter hunt using high-lighters.

Baa Baa Black Sheep is about bags of wool.  Wool is made from sheep and is used to make things such as clothing and blankets.  This is a good rhyme to help students understand how animals can help people.
They each colored nursery rhyme pieces and cut out to fit in their bags.
We sorted uppercase and lowercase Gg's.  The older students searched and highlighted letters and completed story sequencing worksheet. The younger kids were give choice to color or put stickers in their journals.  They used dot markers to make their name.

This nursery rhyme tells about a mouse running and down a clock.  "Hickory Dickory Dock" helps children begin to understand the time of time and numbers.
We glued numbers in our journals.  They each created their own clock, using paint sticks, paper plate, numbers and and then we added the short and long  hand to complete the clock. There was a lot of discussion about numbers and counting.
We also worked on patterns using hearts.

Sing a Song of Sixpence....

This nursery rhyme tells about sixpence, which was coin worth six pennies.  (In today's world, it is equivalent to about 50 cents.) This is good rhyme to help children discuss money and exchanging goods.  Pies are known to many people as comfort food.  The concept of "pies" has been around for a long time.  The Ancient Egyptians around 2,500BC are known to have eaten pies made with ground oats or wheat wrapped around a filling of honey or figs.  During this Invitation to Create, children explored creating their own pie with a real pie tin and paper.  Through this process, children engaged in imaginary play while making their pie  artwork. This project helps children understand that art doesn't have to be hanging on a wall.
They used a feather to write in salt!  They drew pictures and letters. We worked on the letter Aa.

This is a nursery rhyme about five pigs. "This Little Piggy" is a good rhyme to recite while touching their toes. I asked what stories they knew about pigs. We read the nursery rhyme This Little Piggy and they made piggy puppets to go along with the story. We used pipe cleaners to make piggy tails, I showed them how to wrap around their finger to create a tail.
They drew piggy tails in their journals and drew a pig!

Growing Stronger....

Animals start out small and weak but grow bigger and stronger every day. Tigers, which grow up to become one of nature's most feared predators, are extremely strong.  They can carry double their weight up a tall tree. Today we made lion! I asked each of the kids what their hair looked like when they were a baby.  I explained that lions are not born with manes.  By the time they are about five years old, male lions will have a full mane.  They children were encouraged to draw a lion face and add wiggle eyes. We used orange paint and a fork to make a mane.
For fine motor they tore or cut red crepe paper and glued in their fine motor journals.
