We work in our fine motor journals a few times per week. The two year olds will simply color with crayons, use stickers or glue paper. The older kids will do the same and draw a variety of lines, and use stamps. Fine motor journals are a fun way to teach pre-writing skills and strengthen fine motor muscles.
We have been practicing our directed reindeer drawings for a couple of weeks! Today we made our final drawings and painted!
Last week we wrapped up our In the Orchard unit and completed our journals.
We have been practicing our reindeer drawings! Working on the letter Mm, for fine motor and literacy we pasted upper case and lower case letter Mm's in our journals. Today we traced zig zag lines. For our names, I put letters ornaments on the table and they each had to look for the letters in their name.
We played with magnets and added jingle bells! We created our own gingerbread man using collage materials. For fine motor we used glue and sequins. We also made tree names with triangles and circles!
We made gingerbread play-dough. They smelled the dough and we talked about what it smelled like. Some said applesauce and some said cinnamon! We used beads, buttons and eyes to create gingerbread men.
For fine motor we practiced reindeer drawings and made a hand print with paint. We also practiced using scissors. Today we "hung the lights" we picked a letter light and matched with the letter on the paper! Ooops. I missed a post from last week! One of our friends brought a holiday game for all his friends to play. We distributed candy chocolates to each child, and put some in the middle. They took turns spinning the dreidel, followed the instructions that landed face up! He did such a great job teaching us how to play. They had fun learning how to spin the dreidel and of course eating chocolates!
Raccoons are wild animals that can bite and carry diseases. These nocturnal animals sneak into orchards at night and eat the fruit.
We made a raccoon mask, cut out a black tail and painted with white paint. For fine motor they could tear or cut paper to make a collage. We also drew triangles and squares to make houses and cut straight lines. The younger children created their own art in their journals. If the younger kids want to participate they are given their journals and encouraged to color the page! |
