Rainforest floor.....

The rainforest floor is dark and damp. Without sunlight, most plants can't grow. However, roots and many mushrooms are still found on the floor of the forest floor, along with a thin layer of fallen leaves, seeds, fruits, and branches. We made cute mushrooms then we counted and measured the mushrooms. They learned some are poisonous and should always ask an adult before eating.

We are continuing our journey through the rainforest and have moved along to the understory. The understory is a dark place with small trees and bushes. Animals such as monkeys, geckos and praying mantises travel up and down vines and branches in the understory layer.
Geckos are fast and really good at hiding. They have long tails that can detach to save them from danger and then grow back later. Geckos have different patterns on their skin. We used q-tips to paint our geckos.

We made cute swinging monkey's. We used a straw for the branch and they can swing! We also made Tree Boa's.

Rainforest......

The forest floor is the bottom layer of the rainforest. It is damp and dark. The forest floor is also a home to animals, such as ants and jaguars. This week we make jaguars, lily pads, and an anteater!

Jaguars live in the forest floor layer. They have spots on their fur and are good at hiding. Jaguars are fast! Lily pads liv and grow in the Amazon River. This plant is very strong and floats on top of the water. On some lily pads, a lotus flower is attached to the pad. We used plates and cupcake liners to make our lily pads. The Giant Anteater stays on the ground other species of ant eaters live in trees part or all of the time. These animals have poor eyesight and rely mostly on their sense of smell. They can eat up to 35,000 ants or termites each day.

We've been reading the Dr. Seuss Book If I Ran the Rainforest.

Letter of the week is Jj.

Winter Living.....

This week we are wrapping up our Winter in the Woods unit. We made log cabins using noodles! The kids were asked to work together and build a cabin with Lincoln Logs and Legos. Teamwork!! We made a cozy fire place painting. I will be honest, this was a partial fail! No, I did not tell the kids it was a fail. The flames were supposed to be orange. We painted our hands yellow and red, that is supposed to make orange, ours turned out yellow and pink! Oh well, they still got to see the color change when we rubbed our hands together, really, it was orange! Just doesn't appear that way on black paper.
We decorated bowls for porridge. They played a game, chose a word, using the spoon, scooped out letters one at a time to make that word.

We also worked on letter Xx, counting and sorting.
