A teacher is someone who helps children or adults learn different subjects and skills.  Some teachers focus on a specific area, such as music or physical education.

We talked about why some teachers like apples, because they are healthy.  We discussed that apples can be red, yellow and green. They took turns rolling cube and identified the shape and color and then colored the matching shape on their paper.

We worked on letter Jj!

Construction Workers...

A construction worker works on a construction site.  His job is to help build or rebuild roads, buildings, bridges and other structures for the community.  He needs to wear protective gear such as goggles, boots and a hard hat.  We used foam shapes to design buildings on shape mats.  They used blocks to build towers and castles.  Each child was given a cardboard hammer, they matched the game pieces and the older kids we  pounded out syllables. The younger kids hammered the matching pieces.

Mail Carrier...

A mail carrier delivers and picks up mail.  Some carriers may travel on foot while others use a vehicle.  They deliver mail in the sun, wind, snow and rain.  We made mail carrier bags.  The children were encouraged to sew the sides of the bag using yarn.  They wrote a letter and also delivered postcards to different locations. I hung town signs and they chose a postcard and delivered to the correct location. We talked about the purpose of addresses and the name of the street they live on.
They also played dress up and had so much fun!

Bus Driver....

A bus driver is responsible for transporting people from place to place.  School bus drivers pick up and drop off students.  Typically, bus drivers have a bus route that they follow.
The children were encouraged to draw pictures of people or animals in the windows of their bus.  They also drew on a clothespin to make a bus driver.  They drove their buses throughout the town!
We played matching buses.  They matched numbers and shapes. For fine motor I drew a mouth and they put upper case D's on the top and lowercase d's on the bottom, pretending the letters were teeth!

A dentist helps take care of teeth and gums and makes sure they are healthy.  Dentists occasionally take X-rays and check your "bite."
We used a toothbrush instead of crayons for I Spy letter Dd.  They used yellow paint to find the duck, drum, dog and letter Dd.
We also used a toothbrush to clean a tooth!  I printed a tooth template on cream paper, gave them white paint with some glitter to brush the tooth clean!

A police officer helps protect people in dangerous situations and keeps communities safe by enforcing safety rules.  This can sometimes be a dangerous job.  They also help solve crimes, write tickets and help each other. We also talked about fingerprints and how every fingerprint is unique.  They made a Police Headband, they decorated the hat and on the head band they dipped their finger in white paint to make fingerprints.
We glued the letter D in our fine motor journals and practiced cutting lines.

Doctor....

A doctor is someone who helps diagnose and treat people when they are sick, in pain, or injured.  Some doctors are called specialist (dentist, optometrist, surgeon) because they work only with specific parts of the body.  We talked about what comes out of our mouth when we sneeze and how we should cover coughs and sneezes with our elbow.
A syringe is a common medical device used by professionals in the medical field. However it can also be used as an interesting art tool.  For this Invitation to Create the children used a syringe to create their art. I showed them how to pull and push with the syringe and gave them different colors of paint to use.
We created the letter D with loose parts. I told them the D was broken and needed to be put back together.  They were encouraged to form the letter D and use bandaids to keep it together.

A firefighter is someone who saves people from burning buildings and helps with car accidents.  They need to be fit and strong enough to carry the 75 pounds of gear.
Today they created a fire painting using a wooden fork!
We drew fire in our journals using markers.  For math, they picked a card, said the number, found the matching fire station and placed the same number of fire trucks in the station garage.  I set out road letters for them to make roads and play with the fire trucks.

We finished up last week with letter Ee.  We used letter Ee stamps and glued letters Ee into our journals.
Some of our little friends made us some cards!  Love this!
