Neptune is an ice giant whose atmosphere contains hydrogen and helium. This cold planet has strong winds and violent storms. During this Invitation to Create, children explored using blue colored ice to create swirling storms for their planet Neptune. By experimenting with colored ice cubes, children had opportunities to explore using non-traditional art tools.
They used stickers in their journals and glued number 14. They played with pattern blocks. We read I'm NOT just a Scribble, by Diane Alber. Scribbling is where it ALL starts! Children are so proud when they see their completed work! Scribbling helps kids develop fine motor skills needed for writing, drawing and other related skills. Today we made scribbles and added face stickers! As a group we made a mural of scribbles!
The older kids cut crepe paper and glued into their journals. Uranus is a giant ice planet and has the coldest temperatures in our solar system. Its bright, bluish green color is a result of the methane gas in its atmosphere. During this Invitation to Create, children used blue cellophane to create an "icy" planet. Through the process of open ended art, they learned to celebrate each other's artistic ideas.
We used moon rocks and stars to do some math! They used stickers in their fine motor journals. Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. This planet is known for its red spot, which is thought to be one of the biggest and most violent storms in the universe. During this Invitation to Create, children explored stenciling. They developed this artistic technique by making masking tape stripes on a circle shape, then painting over them. They removed the tape to reveal colorful stripes on the paper planets.
In their fine motor journals, the older children used stickers and practiced drawing a bunny! The younger kids used crayons to color. We follow Jefferson County Public School Calendar and will be closed Friday March 15th due to weather. Stay safe and warm!

Pluto was once considered a planet, but because of its small size, it is now a dwarf planet. It is made up of rock and ice. Pluto is the farther celestial body from the sun. You would feel very light on Pluto. They made Rock Planet shakers today! They colored the cups and added beans for the ice and rocks.
They drew and used stickers in their fine motor journals. They are getting so good at putting puzzles together! Puzzles require toddlers to figure out how different pieces fit together, promoting problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Puzzles make learning enjoyable, turning educational activities into play, which is essential for fostering a positive attitude toward learning. And another benefit is, completing a puzzle independently instills a sense of accomplishment and independence in toddlers. Venus is extremely hot because it is close to the sun. It is the hottest planet in our solar system; its average temperature is 900 degrees! It has no moons and is almost the same size as Earth. Venus is covered in thick clouds and is an orangish color. During this Invitation to Create, children used cotton balls and paint to create their own representation of Venus. During this process, children observed physical changes when mixing two colors together.
They colored Venus and then were encouraged to cut into pieces like a puzzle. They glued back together in their journals. They were given letters R, S and Z, they were encouraged to match upper and lower case letters together R with r, S with s and Z with z. They worked on space puzzles today! |
