Due to the lack of light, there are not many plants that grow on the forest floor. Some things that grow on the forest floor are ginger, moss and ferns. They are all living things that need water, soil and sunlight. Their roots grow in the dirt and gather nutrients to help them live. They used pattern blocks to design plants.
I cut the bottom off a sweet potato, we are going to do a sprout experiment. What do you think will happen if we give this root (sweet potato) sun and water? They will draw their observations for the next four weeks. I sure hope this goes better than the last time I tried this experiment, it was a complete flop!

In our journals we used stickers to form the number 5 and put 5 stickers on the bottom of the page. They were encouraged to draw long hooks (letter J formation) and roots.
