A plumber works on pipes and tubes such as a drinking water system. He helps fix or maintain the flow of water. This is important because people need clean water for drinking, cooking and bathing. We read Curious George book Plumbers Helper. We discussed what we saw in the Inspiration photo so they could create their own Pipe Sculpture. During this Invitation to Create they built a pipe sculpture using straws. They engaged in problem solving to connect and build with the "pipes." Through this process, children can better understand that there are multiple ways to solve a problem rather than having one correct solution.
We played Piping letters, we had two tubes one with letter J and one with U. They took turns rolling letter cube, and identified the object on the card and then decided if it started with J or U then put the pompom down the matching tube. At the end we counted the pompoms to see which letter had the most pompoms.
We used scrap pieces of paper to make a number five collage.
