Making honey is not an easy task for the worker bees. They have to collect nectar from about 2 million flowers to produce just one pound of honey. Bees are equipped with long straw like tongues to help suck up the nectar from the flowers.
Bees collect nectar from flowers and bring it back to their colony. During this Invitation to Create, children used their imagination and pretended to be worker bees sucking up sweet nectar. They explored squirting nectar designs on their painting.
For additional exploration today, we used honey and paint, the kids explored creating designs with the sticky paint. Of course, we also had a taste of honey as well!
For small group math today I placed flower cards face up on the floor, they took turns picking a flower out of a bag, identified the number and matched with flower card on floor. Then they placed yellow scrap paper on the matching Number Flower Card to "pollinate" it.
