Blue morpho butterflies fly through the treetops of the emergent layer and are among the largest butterflies in the world. They are found in tropical forests in Central and South America. They have bright, bluish symmetrical wings. The color is a result of light reflecting off the microscopic scales on the butterfly's wings. Natural predators include birds.
During this Invitation to Create, children explored creating their own blue morphs designs, using paint, tissue paper and twist ties. Children made choices throughout their artistic processes to express their own ideas and interpretations of a blue morph butterfly.
They cut and colored letter Dd, and then asked if they could do a puzzle Dd! They practiced drawing squares in their journals.
