Blue Morpho butterflies fly through the treetops of the emergent layer and are among the largest butterflies in the world. They have bright, bluish symmetrical wings. Natural predators include birds.
We looked at the inspiration photo and discussed all the details. I showed the kids with paint how to make symmetrical pictures. They each used a butterfly stencil, tissue paper, twist tie, glue and paint to create their own blue morpho.
We played Chasing Butterflies; they took turns rolling the die and move their butterfly that many spaces.
For fine motor we drew in our journals and rolled snake tongues!
