We incorporate counting into daily activities, such as counting the number of stairs while going up or down, counting the number of kids at the table, counting toys, etc. Today we used 10 frames to practice. They took turns, picked a numbered gingerbread man, identified the number and glued the buttons to the ten frame.

Mangoes grow on tall trees in tropical climates. They are very common fruit used around the world. Mangoes are known for the colors of their skins, such as red, orange, yellow and green. Mango trees can be over 100 feet tall and can live hundred of years. Mangoes are a healthy fruit and have many vitamins.
During this Invitation to Create, children explored the artistic technique of blending colors. Children experiment with using sponges to blend the colors on paper ovals to create their own mangoes. During this process, children shared their discoveries about the changes they saw when two colors mixed together. The older kids were encouraged to write mango. They are doing so well writing their letters! I drew various colors of circles in their journals and they were encouraged to use the same color and draw a line to the matching circle across the page. Kapok trees are among the tallest trees in the rainforest. They are deciduous and can live for over 100 years. Kapok trees provide food and shelter for many species of monkeys, birds, frogs, and insects.
A collage is an artistic technique that is a compilation different material glued onto one surface. Collages can help express a child's ideas and inspirations. During this Invitation to Create, children made a plan to seek out materials and arrange them as they desired. Children explored with mosaic tiles and rainforest animal photos to create their own rainforest collages. In our fine motor journals, we practiced making x's and then made snowflakes! They requested to do puzzles today! Puzzles are so good for children, successfully completing a puzzle gives toddlers a sense of accomplishment and boosts their self-esteem. Puzzles also help with hand-eye coordination, by picking up and placing puzzle pieces. Blue morpho butterflies fly through the treetops of the emergent layer and are among the largest butterflies in the world. They are found in tropical forests in Central and South America. They have bright, bluish symmetrical wings. The color is a result of light reflecting off the microscopic scales on the butterfly's wings. Natural predators include birds.
During this Invitation to Create, children explored creating their own blue morphs designs, using paint, tissue paper and twist ties. Children made choices throughout their artistic processes to express their own ideas and interpretations of a blue morph butterfly. They cut and colored letter Dd, and then asked if they could do a puzzle Dd! They practiced drawing squares in their journals. Parrots have brightly colored feathers, curved bills and clawed feet. They are considered one of the smartest bird species. Some parrots mimic the words they hear. There are over 350 different types of parrots. The kids cut plate in half, painted and added festoon.
For fine motor, they sorted letters Dd and Mm. |
