Color sorting; most pumpkins are orange. We sorted pictures into 2 groups; orange and not orange!
We painted pumpkins using marbles and measured how tall pumpkins are with counters.
The kids learned the difference between a pumpkin and a jack-o-lantern. Just add a face and you have a jack-o-lantern! We cut open a pumpkin to see what is inside, the kids looked and discovered pulp and seeds. Once we were done, we added some baking soda, food coloring and vinegar for a pumpkin explosion!
Pumpkin faces; social and emotional skills are so important for kids. We sang a song to the tune of Where is Thumbkin and made the face that showed each emotion. They had so much fun singing and making faces!
What starts with J&P? We sorted pictures some started with J and others started with P. They picked a card and tried to identify the sounds of letters J&P.
We have been using Tara West's (http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Tara-West) differentiated ABC books and the kids have really enjoyed reading. We have books for each letter we are learning and read daily.
We finished off the week making spider webs using our hands prints and bats!
