Chalkboards are a tool that many teachers use to share ideas and new learning with children. Maybe!....Do they even still use chalkboards in the classroom?
During this Invitation to Create, the children explored the textures and colors of chalk as they designed their own geometric chalkboard style artwork. They used their fingers to tear and place tape on their paper, creating bold "chalkboard lines." Then they experimented with both dry and wet chalk to fit in the spaces of their design. This process encouraged creative planning, fine motor development and artistic exploration through contrasting textures.
We worked on letter Dd, colored, cut and pasted into their journals. For additional fun, I showed them how to draw an uppercase D, flip it around (looks like a mouth) and add teeth!
To finish the day they rolled the shape/color cube, identified the color and shape, located the same shape on their tree and colored the matching color.
