Amphibians, birds, fish and most reptiles are types of animals that lay eggs. When buying eggs at the store or farm, you may find only white or brownish colored eggs. Shell color is based on the breed of the chicken. During this Invitation to Create, the children experimented with a white crayon and watercolors. During the process of decorating their eggs, the children discovered what happens when colored water and wax mix. This cause and effect art project is exciting for children to engage in and incorporates science skills. Process based art focuses on the child's learning that occurs during the project rather than focusing on the end product. Today we worked on animal locations while practicing important positional words like next to, behind, in front of, and on top of. Using linking animals and blocks, the children listened carefully to directions and placed each animal in the correct spot. This activity helped build listening skills, spatial awareness, and early math concepts while keeping learning hands-on and fun. The kids loved connecting the animals and showing off how well they could follow directions!
