The large balloon is called an "envelope," which holds hot air created by a burner. People stand in the wicker basket under the envelope.
They used a paper plate, paint sticks, and paper to create a hot air balloon! It is difficult to see in the pictures but they did draw strings to hold the basket! Airplanes are winged aircraft that are propelled by engines. A pilot sits in the cockpit and is in charge of flying and operating the plane. The first motor-powered aircraft was invented in 1903 by the Wright brothers.
We made paper airplanes! They used q-tips to trace shapes and traced letter J with a stencil. We played a game, landing airplanes, they rolled a die, identified the number and placed that many airplanes on the runways. We used shaving cream to pretend they were writing in the clouds! They used planes and fingers to write letters. We are wrapping up our On Land transportation unit with animals. People sometimes use animals to get from one place to another. The horse is the most commonly ridden animal worldwide. Camels, donkeys and elephants are other animals people use for transportation. They created a horse puppet, using a horse template, yarn and markers.
Their little hands were busy with fine motor practice, we used dot markers, stickers, and play dough! People can get to places by walking, which is also a way to burn calories and stay healthy. Walking 2,000 steps (or walking for approximately 20 minutes) equals one mile. Some people use wheelchairs to move on their own.
They colored and laced a shoe! We practiced letter Uu, using stickers and paint sticks. I used corn on the cob to practice making the letter U. For the kiddos that have started cutting on lines, they are starting to cut shapes. The others that are learning to use scissors are cutting strips of paper. Bikes are usually powered by pedaling but some bikes have a motor. They can have one wheel (unicycle), two wheels (bicycle), or three wheels (tricycle).
We worked on the letter Uu, stamping, coloring and stickers. Trucks are sometimes used for transporting heavy items. There are many different types of trucks, such as pickup trucks, semi trucks and dump trucks. We read Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle, and they painted a blue truck with stuck in the mud!
They traced triangles in their journals, they were encouraged to draw or trace two triangles and draw a line to make a bridge. We played Delivery Truck game, they chose a "package" (scattered photo cards) and delivered to the home marked with the matching sound or letter. Poppy flowers symbolize the sacrifices of soldiers who have fought for our freedoms. They were chosen as a symbol because they often grew in battlefields after the fighting ceased. Today, the children created a field of poppy flowers using green paint and tissue paper.
Thank you to all veterans for keeping us safe! A day late, this was posted on Instagram and FB but did not post on blog. Thank you for your service!
